May and June were abuzz with meticulous preparations for “The Audacity of Imagination” show. As soon as I completed the installation of that work, I immediately began creating pieces for “Out of the Forest” — my upcoming show. Scheduled for August 23rd, the exhibition will be held at Manor Mill Gallery in Monkton, MD.
The title of this new show can be read in many ways. What does come out of the forest? Is it strange or sweet? Real or imagined? Every artist brings their own vision to that question, shaped by personal encounters with the wild.
When you live in the big woods of PA, the wildlife comes right up to the house and eats the hostas. I’ve had plenty of poison ivy rashes and insect stings. But there’s amazing beauty at the wild’s untamed edge. My imagination loves wandering those deep spaces, and that wandering takes form in the entities I sculpt.
Pictured here are a few of the works-in-progress for the show. I’ll have a several of my “forest” paintings and drawings there and hope to have several more wall sculptures completed during the days of July and fired before the show. Wish me luck!
