This art from the book, Golden Junior Guide: Bees, Wasps, and Ants. Written by George S. Fichter and published by Western Pub., Co., 1993, is a children’s science book that showcases illustrations of common bees, wasps, and ants of North America. I used alkyd and oil paints on heavy weight Arches paper, to achieve a smooth texture and meticulous detail. The book’s spreads measure 14.5”h x 21” wide. One of the spreads is missing because it was given as a gift.
Back when I started my illustration career, I’d purchased a platform stereo-microscope to examine insects more closely for some of my other projects. It was put to good use it for this project because it allowed me to really observe the smaller details which I could still paint.
Original art will be enveloped in an archival sleeve and shipped sandwiched between several layers of fome core and cardboard.

Additional note: The spread 24-25 featuring the Cicada-killer wasp was accepted into the Society of Illustrator’s Show in 1994.
