Isabella Moths-- "Butterflies and Moths": Spread 28-29
Spread 28-29, featuring an Atlas moth and its flexible mouthparts (proboscis) from the children’s science book, “Butterflies and Moths”.
This book, Butterflies and Moths, authored by George S. Fichter and published by Western Publishing Co. in 1993, is a children’s book that showcases illustrations of common butterflies and moths of North America. I used alkyd and oil paints on heavy weight paper, to achieve a smooth texture and meticulous detail. The book’s spreads measure 20” x 15”. If you’re wondering why three of the spreads are missing, it’s because they were sold prior to these listings.
Back when I started my illustration career, I’d purchased a platform stereo-microscope to examine insects more closely for some of my other projects. Happily, I got to use it for this project as it allowed me to really observe the smaller details which I could still paint.
Original art will be enveloped in an archival sleeve and shipped sandwiched between several layers of fome core and corrugated cardboard.
