This was my 5th illustrated book in my early career. And ohmygosh, do I love birds. When I was still working on my portfolio, hoping to “break into” the industry, Western Publishing Company was on the top of my list. I’m so glad I was given the opportunity to work with the wonderful art director, Remo Cosentino— and even more grateful to be friends these many years later.
Written by Alvin, Virginia, and Robert Silverstein, Golden Junior Guide: Eagles, Hawks, and Owls was published by Western Pub. Co. in 1994.
To create the paintings, I used alkyd and oil paints on heavy weight Arches paper, to achieve a smooth texture and meticulous detail. The book’s spreads measure 20 x 15”. (The last image is a half-page.)
Original art will be enveloped in an archival sleeve and shipped sandwiched between several layers of fome core and corrugated cardboard.
