Dark Sigil Moonpot- A Vessel of Ceremony or Remembrance
Dark Sigil Moonpot- A Vessel of Ceremony or Remembrance
A ceremonial vessel or urn. Approximately 6” x 6”.
Hand-built from a deep, earthy brown stoneware, this moonpot stands on three short feet, elevating its form just slightly above the surface like a relic waiting to be found. The entire surface is incised with layered sigils, each one water-carved with careful precision. The process is slow and meditative—each layer masked before the next is cut—so that the lines emerge like echoes in clay. The lid, fitted and seated, carries the same quiet inscription of pattern and presence.
The final glaze is a muted, satin finish in greenish-brown tones, lending the pot an organic solemnity— suitable for memory, mystery, or mourning. The interior is glazed a still, lake-dark blue.
Whether intended as a vessel for ritual use or as a resting place for ashes, this moonpot is meant to hold space with dignity and presence.
Made using traditional Yixing slab-building techniques with a light paddle and pottery compass. This is not a wheel-thrown form, but one constructed by hand, with care. All studio glazes are mixed from raw, dry ingredients and tested to harmonize with the clay’s chemistry.
If you would like to commission a set of vessels to share a loved one’s ashes, I would be honored to work with you. Custom colors and dimensions can be requested.
