Dark Sigil Moonpot

$125.00

A ceremonial vessel or an urn. About 6” across and 6” high.

Made of dark brown stoneware, this moonpot has three short feet to hold the clean silhouette of the pot above the tabletop surface. The sigil pattern is patiently water-carved; each layer is etched separately and then masked before the next layer is carved. The seated lid is given a similar etched treatment. The “gold” sheen is achieved by depositing a layer of brass on the surface with a repeated strokes with a wire brush after final glazing. Inside, the vessel is a dark lake blue.

Perfect for holding intentions or the ashes of a remembered dear one.

Made using the traditional Yixing (Chinese) method of teapot-making using a light paddle and a pottery compass. This is a hand-built item and not thrown on a wheel. I'm interested in combining traditional slab construction methods within a craftsman aesthetic. Additionally, all of my studio glazes are developed from recipes that have been mixed from dry raw ingredients and tested carefully to be sure they fit the stoneware clay body.

Please contact me if you would like to order a set of unique vessels in which your loved one's ashes can be shared. I would be happy to accommodate your needs for specific colors.
