Greenman #4
Greenman #4
This is a low-fired terra cotta Greenman tile, with a pale green engobe wash. Approximately 5.5” square. There is a hanging loop of wire on the back for easy of display.
How it was made: I sculpted the original tile from clay. When it was firm enough— but not dry— I poured plaster over it and made a mold that I could use a number of times. The mold won’t last forever: I might get 20 or 30 pressed tiles from it before the details become too worn and I’ll have to retire the mold. This is a limited edition item.
Can be hung outside in warmer months (rain won’t affect it). Protect from freezing (terra cotta is absorbent clay when fired and freezing will cause it to crack).
(Plaster mold and grey raw clay tile shown with a scale.)
