Earth Topology Moonpot
Earth Topology Moonpot
A ceremonial vessel or an urn. About 6” across and 6” high.
Made of smooth white stoneware, this moonpot has three short feet to hold the clean silhouette of the pot above the tabletop surface. The topographical pattern is patiently water-carved; each layer is etched separately and then masked before the next layer is carved. It was glazed with a translucent green craquel glaze which accents the pattern; the three “land” regions are separated with a satin blue “waterway”. The seated lid has been given a similar treatment.
Perfect for holding intentions or the ashes of a remembered dear one.
Please contact me if you and your family would appreciate a set of stable, unique vessels like this in which your loved one's ashes can be shared. I would be happy to accommodate your request.
Made using the traditional Yixing (Chinese) method of teapot-making using a light paddle and a pottery compass. This is a hand-built item and not thrown on a wheel. I'm interested in combining traditional slab construction methods within a craftsman aesthetic. Additionally, all of my studio glazes are developed from recipes that have been mixed from dry raw ingredients and tested carefully to be sure they fit the stoneware clay body.
