Okay, so this blog post is a little off the beaten art path, but I had a conversation with someone today which made me realize that I use a specific strategy when I’m reading wesbite information and it’s not one that not everybody uses. The idea was entirely new to the person with whom I was conversing.
When I’m reading anything that has lots of links in the body of the text, I right click on the link and pop it into another tab. And then I stay on that page and keep reading the article. As I come across other links in the article that might be of interest, I again, pop them into a tab. When I’m finished reading the entire first article, then I go to the tabs and start reading the next page of information. If I come across links on that page, I treat the links the same way, popping them into a browser tab.
What I never do is I don’t ever just follow links willy nilly away from the article I first started reading. This strategy keeps me focused and I don’t get lost in the wilds on the internet and suddenly find myself miles away from my original quest. I’ve been using this strategy since I’ve been on the internet (1999?) and I just figured everyone used this strategy to organize their thoughts while reading hyperlinked pages so I never bothered to mention or explain it to anyone. But there you have it.
Do you already use this strategy or a different one?
