I’m excited to share with you that I’ve recently partnered with Ms. Jane Frank of Wow-Art agency , online gallery representative, to offer the original paintings for a few of my books: Charlesbridge Pub Co., Creepy Creatures, Do They Scare You?, Franklin Watts’ Animal Skeletons and more. In a few earlier blog posts I wrote that I’d been scanning this old artwork but I didn’t tell you that it was for the Wow gallery. So, if you’re curious, hit the link and take a gander at what’s there.
Ms. Frank is really the person to talk to about art marketing and sales. She’s got a master’s degree in Business and marketing and taught college courses in the subject for many years. And she’s very lively and engaging with lots of great ideas. I was lucky to be able to cadge a meeting with her in October at the IlluXCon show and she was super gracious to speak to me at length about how to sell art in person. She made the case that I can’t sit back and wait for people to engage me and ask me questions at a show. That it’s on me to turn the telescope around and to ask them questions, to get curious about who they are and why they’ve stopped in front of my work. It was really illuminating to learn from her that being at a show in person is a major advantage, one that I don’t really have online. People who attend a show or event to view original artwork and meet the artists are looking for the personal interaction. Here’s a chance to engage them in a conversation about what they want.
What can you do to engage your captive audience in the conversations that will make you and your work memorable? Relationships are what create a connection to your work. Connection to you is what compels someone to buy your work. Just ask Jane.
Keep making your best work and shine on, my lovely Art Gnome.
