The 27 year old who wished upon a comet had no idea that she’d end up with a master’s degree at age 39.
The 39 year old didn’t know that she’d be writing music and playing keyboards in a band at 45.
And that 45 year old didn’t yet know that ceramics and sculpting was going to be a joyful part of her studio art practice at age 55.
The point is, no one knows what their life is going to be like 10, 20, or 30 years from now.
If you stick around, you get a chance to see how you turn out. You get to find out what new skills you’ve acquired, find out what new passions and interests you’ve developed. You get to see all the amazing and weird stuff you’ve brought into the world. It could really be amazing, beautiful, wondrous.
But you’ve got to stick around.
Depression sucks. When you have it, the pain feels like it won’t ever stop and life’s going to be this way forever. It’s hard not to focus on that.
Your Future Self will regale you with a lilting voice all the amazing things you’ve done. An even Older Self will wrap you in the tales of all the incredibly cool people you’ll meet and love. Your Very Older Future Self will remind you with sharp piercing eyes all the things you’ve learned along the way and how wise and thoughtful you’ve become.
Stick around, ok? It’s so worth it to meet your Future Self because their life is amazing.
Sending lots of love to you today, little buddy,
K2
